About Us
Carleton Place Childcare Services began operation in September of 1983. The program has grown and changed since that time. We operate as a department of the Town with the guidance and support of Council, CAO, and Treasurer. We are non-profit, municipal centers that are licensed through the Ministry of Education. We are also inspected by the Ministry of Health, as well as the Ministry of Education so that we may offer the highest quality of care for all children.
Teachers in our program are qualified Early Childhood Educators that are trained to work with children aged birth to twelve years. Our Early Childhood Educators (RECE’s) are registered members with the College. We also hire assistants who work directly with our RECE educators to help create, manage, and enhance learning while in the classrooms.
Children 0-4 years receive a.m. and p.m. snacks and a full lunch that are nutritionally balanced and prepared fresh each day. The programs operate Monday to Friday from 6:30am to 6:00pm. Hours for school age are split or full time depending on when school is in session. Our school age program are also provided am and pm snacks. During care on full days, School Age children bring their own lunches.
Programs include nursery school, infant, toddler, preschool and school-age care, as well as a summer camp and a youth program for children 9-14 years. The overall goal for our programs is to offer secure, stimulating environments that promote individual growth and education for all children. We do our very best to offer integrated programs.
Activities that are offered include: art, science, music, sensory play, cooking, math, etc.). It is our belief that children learn best through play. We follow Ontario’s curriculum “How Does Leaning Happen” which encourages staff to program around children’s individual interests and abilities. Growth and development are recorded and shown in staff’ documentation which is provided to parents through our “Himama” app.
As a municipal service, we also try to answer questions or concerns regarding childcare in our community. We provide information services in the form of resource books, pamphlets, phone numbers and email links for specific child services in Carleton Place and the surrounding area, as well as information workshops. Any parent or community member is welcome to call, email or drop in for information regarding any of your childcare concerns.
